Anchorage, Alaska set a new 24hr daily snowfall record:
The National Weather Service measured 6.8 inches for Thursday at its Sand Lake offices.
That breaks the old record of 6.1 inches set in 2011

❄️🚨This is the most intense lake effect snow band I've ever seen over Lake Michigan, and that says something because I've chased many lake effect events in NW Indiana. This one will cripple traffic from Sunday into Tuesday morning. I wouldn't even touch I-94; you will get stuck on the roads in this snow band unless you know how to drive. Please stay off the roads. #ILwx#miwx#INwx❄️🚨

1/2: I normally don't see northerly flow lake-effect events this early in the season. This is a perfect setup for the longest fetch of Lake Michigan and it will be a serious band, maybe even a few mesovortices. NAM late tonight thru Mon Eve.🧵

While lots of snow in the middle of winter can certainly cause dangerous travel conditions, many times it’s the FIRST snow of the season that can cause accidents.
Be extra careful as you and other drivers adjust to driving in poor conditions. Slow down, don’t use cruise control, and keep your distance from other vehicles.
Don’t let the first snow sneak up on you! Stay up to date with the latest forecast at weather.gov.
