The government isn’t actually required to rebuild people’s homes after a natural disaster. Their main job is to fix the roads, restore power and water, and get the country economy up and running again so people can earn and rebuild for themselves. That said, the government usually offers some help things like relief grants, housing support, or working with aid agencies. So, while they may not build back every home, they help create the right conditions for people to get back on their feet.. So all who are sitting down and not moving and waiting for a new concrete house better wake up.

Thank you to Global Empowerment Mission and my friend Deika Morrison @deikamorrison for the absolute privilege to join them in their relief efforts. Yesterday I traveled to Westmoreland with my team of 20 tradesmen (carpenters etc) to effect temporary shelter to key sites and affected people. GEM is providing generators and Starlinks to communities and also supporting the MOH with tarping roofs of key health facilities. We were also able to hand out several tarps and install them for several mostly elderly people in Sav. We then moved to the Darliston Health Center and even though it was dark the team worked through the night to cover half of the roof. We are back down today to finish the job and will move onto any where else that needs us under the instruction of GEM and the JDF. Major thanks to Aldwyn Wayne from Nimble Mobile who came on board immediately to sponsor the crew and will be providing ongoing support to Jamaica. One roof at a time.

#Update The Newell Health Center has reopened. Very important for our primary care needs. Will be advocating for increased doctor access. Other centers have been reopened in St Elizabeth.

Following my most recent visit to Content, my reports of what obtain and my request for additional interventions , the Coast Guard ; the naval arm/unit of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF), which falls under the executive arm of our government (more specifically the Prime Minister and the Minister of National Security) made a visit to the area. The police had long declared the area/roadway impassable. We urge curious members of the public to desist from breaching the barricades. I remain in very close contact with members of the community and some of the affected home owners . More updates will follow.
