Sad story but the law is the law here
Indiana law (Indiana Code § 35-41-3-2) includes a Castle Doctrine, giving people the legal right to use reasonable — even deadly — force to defend themselves, their family, or their property when they believe an imminent threat exists.
Do you think the homeowner should be charged or not⁉️
Authorities are deciding whether to charge an Indiana homeowner who shot and killed a 32-year-old woman working as a house cleaner after she mistakenly went to the wrong home on November 5, 2025.
Officers found Maria Florinda Rios Perez de Velasquez dead on a front porch in Whitestown just before 7 a.m. Wednesday. According to investigators, Rios Perez was part of a cleaning crew that had gone to the wrong address in the Heritage subdivision.
Her husband, Mauricio Velazquez, told WRTV that the couple had been cleaning homes for about seven months. He said he was standing beside his wife at the door when the homeowner opened fire through the closed front door. Velazquez said he didn’t realize she had been shot until she collapsed into his arms.
Police have not identified the homeowner involved in the shooting. Boone County Prosecutor Kent Eastwood said deciding whether to file charges will not be simple.
Eastwood noted that the case could hinge on Indiana’s castle doctrine law, which allows residents to use reasonable - even deadly - force if they believe someone is unlawfully entering their home.
