let's all agree to AGENTS .md before it is too late, please @AnthropicAI love you but CLAUDE .md is not sustainable
Our biggest problem is the terrible shortage of rule files AGENTS .md, CLAUDE .md, GEMINI .md .cursorrules, (.cursor/rules) .windsurfrules, .clinerules, vscode - .github/copilot-instructions.md bolt - .bolt/prompt .rules

I also want a git-esque layer for my AGENTS .md so I can swap easily between them based on what context I'm working on. I've got some hacked together versions with Claude Code / commands, but there's gotta be a better way.

gemini allows using other files
Personally, i load different rule files based off of phrases I use. so if i say backend, it loads the backend file, terraform loads the terraform rule file etc.

You should be able to just point the agent to your rules file and call it whatever you want

if it'll be later used primarily for memory, the separation is reasonable. different scaffoldings will use them in different ways just like how human memory usually wouldn't make sense to be shared directly between people

Imagine each agent trying to fight over formatting in AGENTS .md I don't think we are ready to standardize, all formats are unstable and experimental.

The problem is different models require different prompting. Maybe this will become less true over time.

...gemini .md... ...openai .md... ...some guy who makes an over unsustainable everything NPM package to partially automate these... the future is bright! ☀️
symlinks and/or includes would do?
It is so far past too late
it's amazing to know that this tweet actually reaches key decision-makers at those big labs and influences them

AGENTS .md sounds like the lifeboat we need before the ship sinks. CLAUDE .md might as well be wearing concrete shoes. Let's prioritize sustainability before we all float away.
