an adaptation is infinitely more interesting to me when it blends the voices & worldviews of both the original author & the artist doing the adapting. what’s the point of a rote retelling of a story you already know front-to-back? preserve its soul, but give it your personality.
I don't care if a film adaptation doesn't stay faithful to every single point of its source material, as long as the heart of the story is successfully delivered

There’s something almost dystopian about people insisting that a campaign that centrally featured the shouting down of anti-genocide protestors was “filled with joy.”
Kamala Harris and Zohran ran the same fucking campaign. Both filled with joy. Kamala Harris was running for President and only had 3 months. Zohran Mamdani ran for MAYOR and was able to campaign for a whole fucking YEAR! Presidential and local elections are not the same.

In a world where all our favourite franchises coming back usually invokes a sense of dread, Predator and Apes have somehow both bucked the trend and provided some of the best sci-fi movies of the past 20 years.
what dan trachtenberg has done for the predator franchise will forever go down as one of the best franchise revivals i’ve ever seen, i truly cannot thank him enough

A particularly funny example of the principle that “cops frequently lie in sworn court testimony.”
“Lairmore had testified that the sandwich ‘exploded all over’ his chest and claimed he could smell mustard and onions. But a photo showed that the sandwich was still in its wrapper on the ground after it hit Lairmore in his bulletproof vest.” nbcnews.com/politics/justice…

Making the punisher a faceless character for his first episode is so cool
since i joined the fandom so late and already knew most of the major spoilers before i even started watching. i wonder what it was like for people who saw frank’s first appearance in real time. and for those who ended up loving him, when did it start for you? 🙌🏻

It’s funny that after this first encounter, frank and Karen go on to have way more palpable sexual chemistry than she ever did with Matt

Notice how you don't see the Aardman animators going on twitter to talk about "how hard" it was to make this when claymation is one of the most painstaking methods of animation? It's because they're actual artists. Unlike those Coca Cola posers.
Bet you didn't think you'd see Wallace in his underwear today? 😅 A new #BarbourChristmas film with national treasures Wallace & Gromit? That’s just grand. #WallaceandGromit

Tom Paine's Common Sense is one of the three or four most important documents of the American Revolution and it percolates with contempt for aristocracy and aristocrats. Today's billionaires are much, much more powerful and anti-democratic than 18th century aristocrats.
“I left a message today.” Jamie Dimon tells Erin Burnett he called Zohran Mamdani and plans to meet with him. “If I find it productive, I’ll continue to do it.”

The economy being bad in a mostly normal (except for tariffs), non covid way has him really off balance. He benefited so much from the good economy the first time and you really wonder what things look like if people start treating him like a regular politician.
Trump: Our energy costs are way down. Our groceries are way down. Everything is way down. And the press does not report it… Thanksgiving meals 25% down. So I don't want to hear about the affordability.

You tell a WASP in 1905 that a Pole, Irishman, Ukrainian, Italian, Slovak, Greek or Bavarian is his racial equal and he is shooting you in the head
1905 census of New York City: - 97.7% European American - 2.12% African American - 0.18% Other
This sociopath is literally saying, "Yeah, I'm making billions building up a bubble, but that's okay, because when it bursts, the American taxpayers will bail me out, so I can keep making more billions." Hard to even find words for the depravity of these MFers.
In a new podcast Sam Altman says: " When something gets sufficiently huge ... the federal government is kind of the insurer of last resort, as we've seen in various financial crises ... given the magnitude of what I expect AI's economic impact to look like, I do think the government ends up as the insurer of last resort."
Bugonia: The best Yorgos movie since The Favourite. Just because you know exactly where it’s going doesn’t mean you can’t have a great time. Delightfully goofy and cruel.
