Time for a serious topic - business & struggles. A short story about how doodling with Blender Game Engine became a small business along with my brother @_karlisup

I'm so happy to share that the stairs update is liiiiiive. This is by far our biggest update that we've been cooking since *checks calendar* omg, since March x_x Huge thanks to everyone who helped us test it while in beta <3
Now lemme walk you through some of the new shinies 🧵

Join @aras_p as he walks me through the @unity memory lane - from the inception until very recently!
We talk about the engine, development, Unity subsystems (DOTS, Scriptable Rendering Pipelines) but also company, culture, and how it changed over the years!
@aras_p thank you for joining me! It was an honor!
Because there's no dialogue in Flow, it was important to me that the goals and motivations of the characters are simple and clear. The cat wants to reach and climb up the giant cliff towers to escape from the flood. The design of the towers had to be iconic and recognisable from far away. This was partially inspired by environment design in some video games which feature big landmarks which help you find the right direction to go towards.
Flow was made entirely with Blender and rendered in real time with EEVEE. We didn't use a renderfarm. The final render was done on my PC. There was no compositing, all the colors were tweaked and adjusted using shaders.
The two most educational things in any new environment:
- run the project in a profiler
- run the project in a debugger
it sounds silly but just singlestepping through the whole thing anwers so many questions
The Blender Studio team is proud to release Project Gold, a technical showcase focused on stylized rendering, along with an add-on designed to achieve a painterly look.

So I got a new machine. Windows 11. Brand new. It's stuck updating. It is taking ages. Why? Well, I don't have any definitive answers but my most basic instinct is to always attach a profiler -- I recommend the excellent @SuperluminalSft. 1/n
