No, Peter. When a foreign aggressor is bombing your country you may legitimately strike back by sabotaging the aggressor’s ability to finance the war.
It is called self-defence.
The real question is who and why would fabricate such a *poor* fake that will certainly torpedo any due legal process to strip him of citizenship (if not in Ukraine then at ECHR).
Incompetence? Naivete? Or intentional embedding of a poison pill. I have no idea but am very curious
Here's a copy of a *real* travel passport of Gennady Trukhanov. Issued 2003 at a Russian consulate, probably Odessa. Valid through 2008. Disclosed by @Anna_Babinets in 2018 reporting. Notice the real transliteration in Russian (double nn, kh) vs the forged new one.

That said, he did have two Russian passports, issued on 2004 and 2011 respectively. In 2019, someone used his passport to take out a micro loan of 5k rubles in his name (most likely a fraudster). Also in 2019, someone used that passport number to travel via train under a different name.
Moreover. This passport number indeed has a real passport issued under it. To a woman from Novosibirsk who has traveled on it dozens of times during it's period of validity. So no, there can't be a mistake, the travel passport shown is fake.
This passport is not and can't be real. The passport number 712359719 is a biometric passport, belonging to a batch all issued on 1 and 2 November 2010. This is easily verifiable by checking this passport range against leaked travel and borde crossing data.
I have expressed no opinion on the character of Trukhanov and his suitability for being mayor of Odesa. However, the main argument for his citizenship being revoked is based on a *forgery*. You can't achieve legitimate outcomes using illegitimate means.
Facts are facts.
SBU claims (1) he had Russian citizenship and his lawyers tried to cancel his passport in 2017. This appears to be correct.
(2) He has a valid Russian travel passport. This is demonstrably false and based on a forged document (or image).
Today Ukraine's SBU announced that president Zelensky has revoked the Ukrainian citizenship of the mayor of Odessa, Genadiy Trukhanov. The reason, alleged by SBU, was that in 2015 the mayor obtained a Russian travel passport allegedly valid through the end of 2025. However, this document is demonstrably fake, and likely originates from a Russian active measure against the incumbent mayor.
