there is more than one way to be one of the great cyclists of one’s generation

I think Wout van Aert will long be remembered for his selflessness as a rider — I think there is genuinely so much of himself and his talent that he’s given to others that any talk of him being some kind of disappointment is completely unwarranted

Tadej Pogačar knows no fear, even at Paris-Roubaix, writes @derailleurkate – and despite defeat at an atavistic race that punishes errors sharply, his lesson is not that he cannot someday win, simply that he didn't today. escapecollective.com/a-tanta…

Huge shame for @itvcycling's long-standing quality coverage. Shortsighted too, of ASO, who presumably think that casual UK-based fans who watch the race largely for the chateaux, mountains and vineyards, will suddenly buy subscriptions.
Free-to-air TV coverage of Tour de France stops in UK as Warner-Discovery-Eurosport get exclusivity. Cycling fans may have subs to ES but it means larger casual audience, ie the public, won't see it any more which is not good for them, nor the sponsors hoping to reach them.
i'm writing about the vuelta but after it's over :)

but also it was striking seeing the difference between European youth cycling in 🇸🇮 where the teams provide the resources and equipment for families vs N. America where everything is very pay to play. It’s better than before but still a stacked system even for middle class kids

this was my first time working for the business press writ large and it’s fascinating what saying you’re with a business mag can do when you’re calling people up and asking them how much money they spend on things. Like getting a glimpse into Oz.

while everyone was en route to France i went to go watch kids race bikes in rural Quebec to see how much it costs to make it to the top. the answer is….a lot
