The Department of Homeland Security stated agents were executing a warrant at the marijuana facility to enforce immigration laws, with a spokesperson emphasizing officers’ bravery in continuing to uphold the law.
Protesters clashed with masked federal agents, who used crowd control measures including irritants and tear gas; at least one person was detained, with footage showing agents pinning someone to the ground.
A news crew was hit with less-lethal rounds during the chaos, and a protester allegedly fired a gun at federal agents.
California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office condemned the raid as “inhumane,” stating it evokes chaos, fear, and terror in communities, including farmworkers, as part of the Trump administration’s tactics.
Another large-scale raid occurred in nearby Carpinteria, prompting a city council meeting to address the uptick in enforcement, following two prior raids that week.
