Before the illegal boarding, Israeli naval vessels deliberately jammed the ships' communications, attempting to disrupt distress calls and halt live broadcasts of the illegal boarding. The Global Sumud Flotilla was carrying humanitarian aid to innocent people being subjected to genocide by Israel in Gaza and was crucial in raising awareness of the genocide being carried out in Gaza.
