Some members of the diaspora who lobby for Somaliland have convinced themselves that inciting right-wing Islamophobes in the West against Somalis will earn them recognition. They specifically target individuals from certain clans, they also claim that Somalis are a different ethnic group to them. They use terms like “Somalians” to separate themselves, which they believe shields them from the hate they intend to provoke. This is also an attempt to erase collective Somali identity. They distort videos, mistranslate content, and share it with right-wing pages, aiming to harm specific Somali clans. Under UK law, this could be seen as incitement to racial hatred, since targeting someone for their ethnic or national origins is a criminal offence. Many of these lobbyists are based in the UK and may not realise that targeting another clan could fall under the law protecting racial groups and be a criminal offence. Anyone aware of such activity should collect evidence and report it to local authorities. If the individuals genuinely view targeted Somalis as a different ethnic group and actively attempt to incite hatred, their actions demonstrate xenophobia. Extremism has no place in our society and should be called out.

You know what else is happening in America’s heartland? People are waking up. They are not afraid of the Somali population, which makes up less than one per cent, but of the power of the Israel lobby over their government. Ordinary Americans are tired of endless wars for Israel, censorship and foreign influence shaping their politics.
