At some point in your career, you stop worrying about abstractions. You stop deciding for users how they should use your code. You just code, it's bliss.
Zig doesn't allow "private" data members of a struct. Here's Andrew's reasoning behind it: "The idea of private fields and getter/setter methods was popularized by Java, but it is an anti-pattern. Fields are there; they exist. They are the data that underpins any abstraction. My recommendation is to name fields carefully and leave them as part of the public API, carefully documenting what they do." I guess he is against abstracting the internal representation from public. I have 2 questions here: 1. how do you change your implementation without breaking public APIs ? 2. How do you ensure that all data structure invariants are maintained by user code since all your representation is now public ? Thoughts ? (link to Andrew's thoughts: 👇)

The app that claims to “promote and protect the freedom of expression” would rather you fixate on violent and pornographic adult content than see a documentary that methodically peels back the mask of American Zionism to reveal its ghastly face That’s why our film is restricted
🚨 BREAKING: X has labeled The Grayzone's new film about the Zionist group Betar USA as “age-restricted adult content” that “might not be appropriate for people under 18 years old.” This is what a desktop user sees when attempting to view it while not logged into an account:

“Sir, we’re here because you criticized Israel online.” A man in Texas says local police showed up at his door over his posts — looks like free speech expires the moment Tel Aviv gets mentioned.
This is from 2005. Before Hamas came to power in Gaza. Makes you think, right?

Some of the replies here validate my opinion that software development has an unnecessarily high opinion of itself. Software development is mostly a blue collar job which is ruined by those who think of it as a high science. Our industry would be a lot better off - and a lot better at what it does - if it embraced the blue collar nature of our work and educated and organised itself accordingly. Also, snobbery. The number of people who assumed that mechanics don’t do physics and then wrongly assume I meant programmers don’t do math…
A programmer uses math in the same way a car mechanic uses physics.

3 years ago, we chose a monolith. Today, that monolith: - Runs in a single ASG. - Deploys in 12 minutes. - Is understood by every engineer. - Has a single, fast test suite. - Costs 1/5th what our 'microservice' platform does. We're now building our second product. It's also a monolith. Microservices solve problems we don't have. And they create problems we don't want.

The biggest predictor of coding ability is Language Aptitude. Not Math. A study posted in Nature found that numeracy accounts for just 2% of skill variance. Meanwhile, the neural behaviors associated with language accounted for 70% of skill variance.

This is the "most moral army in the world": A soldier stealing a child's bicycle and throwing it in the trash A perfect,small-scale metaphor for an occupation built on stealing childhoods, joy, and futures. Pure, casual cruelty
ESims, modern standby, windows copilot, stuff nobody asked for but got shoved down our throats regardless.

Here’s a real-life horror story 😱 It’s Saturday, a weekend and a public holiday here in Bengaluru. My dad’s iPhone 13 Pro Max slipped from his hand and the display shattered completely. Unfortunately, he uses an eSIM, which means he’s now locked out of his phone. No calls, no OTPs, no WhatsApp, nothing. Now, I have several spare phones lying around, but because there’s no physical SIM, he can’t just switch devices. Transferring an eSIM requires a functioning display, which he obviously doesn’t have anymore. So I thought, no problem, let’s repair the screen. But guess what? Every local repair shop is closed for the long weekend. And to make things worse, Airtel stores are closed too. I even have a brand-new unused physical SIM card with me, but Airtel refuses to activate it over the phone, they insist I visit a store in person. Which, again, isn’t possible today. So the earliest he can hope to have a working phone again is tomorrow. Now imagine this same situation happening abroad, on a trip, or in a country where support isn’t as accessible. It would be an absolute nightmare. Yet another reason why eSIMs are a terrible idea when things go wrong. They’re great when everything works perfectly, but the moment something breaks, you realize how fragile and dependent the system really is.

Mossad says they have put bombs and listening devices in electronic devices in the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, every Western regime they own, ready to do with as they please. Zero coverage in any Western media outlet about this open admission, because they own everything
🚨Israel's ex-Mossad Chief brags they have spread "boobytrapped & manipulated equipment" like Hezbollah's pagers in "all countries you can imagine" How is this rogue state behaviour so normalized & tolerated that this criminal admission of perfidy did NOT make a single headline!
Indians and their god given right to bang a drum at any hour of the day any day of the year. Why are Indians so obsessed with banging the shit out of the neighbours ear drum for every single festival? And why is there one every week of the year?
