"It has never been easier to build an MVP and in turn, it has never been harder to keep focus. When new features always feel like they're just a prompt away, feature creep feels like a never ending battle. Being disciplined is more important than ever." I really feel this one!
6 months ago @Sentry acquired our company & since then I've been experimenting a lot with AI I wrote up some of my thoughts on vibe coding & dealing with "AiDHD" josh.ing/blog/aidhd

Yes. Wed: built a Miro competitor with completely decentralised real-time collaboration. Share your real real time link straightaway private server. Thursday: invented TikTok for email where you swipe left to archive mail and swipe right to star it Today: I implemented Jupiter notebooks but supporting web assembly languages including rust and having full context interoperability so you could write some code in JavaScript transfer it to Python and then to Rust, for no other reason than it sounded cool. These I’m throwing together as side side hustles.

We need a new paper: “Attention is all we human need in these AI era”

Turns out being disciplined is a lot harder than just writing another prompt & hoping for the best from the slop machines

The dopamine hit when you’re in that inner-loop flow at 3:30am is amazing and one feels truly omnipotent. Gotta watch out for AI psychosis tho.

Not to mention trying to keep up with the pace of model improvement. Two weeks ago there were like four new SotA OCR models that I wanted to dive into but had to stay focused on the task at hand.

its infuriating when you know you can code it in a few hours but when you prompt it and it makes it worse but not worse enough for you to actually correct it and code so you prompt further and eventually its all shit and you have to start over again

I have heard it said that startups don’t die by starvation, but by indigestion. AI is probably supercharging this.

good design has always been about reduction, not addition.

I feel this! The new plan mode in @cursor_ai is helpful for setting goals instead of starting with no clear destination in mind.

Discipline is the new currency

Yes great observations. We are all going through it.

AIDHD, ouch! Guilty I guess. There’s also a deflation-like dynamic. When prices are falling why spend today when you can buy better or spend less money/time tomorrow? This hits the dull cleanup / test / secure and ship activities disproportionately. Turns out “huh, I wonder if I can…” happily drives the rest of it, regardless of falling costs.

So easy to keep adding things on. Keeping the focus is the real MVP.
