Something that is never factored into the published (ridiculously high) cost of nuclear energy, a near century long clean up. We pay for this. Current bill, £120 billion and climbing. Sizewell C will be just more of the same. Madly expensive power and a toxic legacy for thousands of years. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c986…

We created a system where those most lacking in basic human decency and empathy attain the most wealth, influence, and power. What could possibly go wrong? #Trillionaires #ElonMusk
"The current state of American capitalism isn’t sustainable. It doesn’t deserve to be sustained. And the best way to avoid an American version of “eat the rich” is to fix the current “let them eat cake” distortion of capitalism into which we’ve fallen." thebulwark.com/p/let-them-ea…

The climate crisis is no longer a future threat — it’s a terminal diagnosis, and the only moral response now is to act like everything depends on us, because it does. rogerhallam.com/climate-real…

If you want to help the poor, then lower taxes on the rich. What helps the poor is a productive economy that makes goods and services more abundant and less expensive, while creating employment opportunities. The capital investment that makes that possible comes from the rich.

Everything is too expensive and Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have decided to make things worse by hiking up the Local Property Tax. This will add hundreds of euro to some bills. This is what the government does when people are already under pressure with rip off prices and out of control costs. They need to stop. We need to make life affordable for workers and families. Taxing the family home is wrong. So instead of hiking up bills they should scrap the Local Property Tax.

Clean energy is winning on price, performance & potential. Yet, fossil fuels still command vast subsidies – taxpayers’ money – and political support. This is not just short-sighted. It’s self-destructive. A bet in fossil fuels is a bet against humanity – and against economies.

The hard truth is that the world has failed to ensure global warming remains below 1.5°C. We need a paradigm shift to limit a temporary overshoot’s magnitude & duration & quickly drive it down. #COP30

Starting at 1% in the polls, @ZohranKMamdani pulled off one of the great political upsets in modern American history. Yes. We CAN create a government that represents working people and not the 1%. I look forward to working with Zohran as he builds a city that works for all.

The genocide has just gone quieter, slower, more insidious. It has not stopped. Nor should we stop opposing it!
Channel 4 News is inside one of many warehouses filled with tonnes of aid that the Israeli authorities are not letting through to Gaza. It's estimated that there is enough aid for 150 trucks per day, five days per week for three months to help Palestinians. We have reached out to the Israeli government for a response.
