Why would you build a new world-class city in California? It's almost an Atlas Shrugged situation - the government is simply going to find a way to harvest all benefit from it once it's built.

As a 45 year California resident, I love the dream. I desperately desperately want you to be right, and I want to avoid my well chiseled cynicism, but how the hell can you keep all the bozos out of this project? Politicians with hands out, Builders jacking construction costs, Environmental groups protecting endangered snails, just to name 3. The graft, cost overruns, delays, you’ll be a very old man before this is 1/20 completed. Granted Gavin and his clown car will be gone, but a new clown car filled with new snakes will slither in. Just look at the one mile of train track Gavin built in So Cal. Over 15 years. You’re from old Soviet era Czechoslovakia? This is probably akin to that ugly world. Bonne chance.

Yes it is f*cking time to build! Not just a city. But a world that excites us. To strive for a future so exciting, so innovative, so creative and advanced, that we wake up each morning and jump out of bed ready to chisel away at it.

I think it'd be worth the time to invest in other coasts that don't currently have shipyard infrastructure. Deepwater harbors are shown to be feasible in several studies along the TX coast. I may just spend time doing that instead. Let's face it, California is a museum, much like Europe
